I write to you today with exciting balloon printing news! Here at Signature Balloons we are now able to print in full CMYK. This may not sound as exciting as I have made out but as a Balloonologist I can tell you, this really is big news!
Before we get into it, let me quickly explain the process. CMYK uses halftones of the colours Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Key (Black) layered on top of one another to create other colours. For example, by using halftones of magenta we can create a pink colour, if this is then layered on top of halftones of yellow we can create red. By using this process many other colours can be created which is why CMYK is often referred to as ‘Full Colour Process’.
For a long time now we have been limited to printing up to 4 spot colours onto latex balloons, the introduction of CMYK balloon printing allows us to replicate artwork, logos, designs and images onto latex balloons in full colour. Previously, logos would need to be reduced to 4 colours or we’d use halftones of the spot colour to produce a shading effect whereas now we can print logos in up to 8 spot colours or in full colour using CMYK.
I’ll give you an example of multi-colour artwork that we printed pre-CMYK days and one we printed recently with CMYK.
The first example was printed in red, blue & green with halftones to create the frog. As you can see the results are still really impressive but the frog and his crown aren’t replicated in full colour.

This next example was printed using CMYK and you can see the difference, the Kingfisher has been printed in full colour giving a finished product a lot closer to the original artwork.

For those working in design, marketing and creative agencies this is quite possibly something your clients will love as brand conscious promotional balloons can be a fantastically effective tool.
So next time you have some difficult or multi-colour artwork and you or a client are interested in printed balloons feel free to send across your logo and requirements and one of our resident Balloonologists will be happy to help. Request a quote here.
